Inuit Lady: Original art posters inspired by the Greenlandic culture and flora.

Inuit Lady Ulu Flora series – Made in Greenland, a love for the Greenlandic culture and flora with a modern twist.

The Inuit Lady series plays a modern take on the Greenlandic cultural items such as the traditional inuit women’s knife, the ulu, the inuit lady hair tied in a bun, and the traditional kamiks. Alongside the artist’s love for flowers.

The Greenlandic artist, Maria Panínguak` Kjærulff, (Greenlandic name: ”sweet little daughter”,) has a background in Fine Arts from NSCAD University, Halifax and Cooper Union School of Art, New York. Maria has developed the unique series of Inuit Ladies using watercolors, as they create a rich, vivid and graphic look.

The ulu, the traditional Greenlandic women’s knife, along with good sewingskills, was a survival tool in the inuit life style. The ulu designs vary in different parts of Greenland. The main three designs are part of theInuit Lady Ulu Flora series, with the ulu designs from: Southwest (Kitaa), Northwest (Thule), and East of Greenland (Tunu).

As well as the ulu’s, the traditional Greenlandic costumes also varies in each region. The inuit kamiks (boots) in the series, are each from their represented areas of Greenland.
